CONTINUING EDUCATION DATABASE SYSTEM IS ON LINE EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 17, 2009
Continuing Education Providers in Texas are now operating in a new system effective February 17, 2009. This new database system requires the reporting of all courses completed by each agent in Texas after February 16, 2009. This information will be held in a database which can be accessed by individual agents so that each agent can track their own number of credit hours on file. This information allows the Texas Department of Insurance to also track the number of credit hours on an agent by agent basis. This will provide a much faster auditing tool for the TDI, so be sure that you complete all your credit hours on time for each renewal period. Remember that there is a $50.00 fine for each required hour not completed within each renewal period.
Database entries will begin with all courses completed on and after February 17, 2009. Course completion information will be entered into the agent's record on the database. Sircon will be the vendor involved and they will charge a fee of $.75 per credit hour to the CE Provider. The price for our continuing education courses has not gone up since the inception of the company and we do not plan to increase the price for our courses; unfortunately, we must pass on this Sircon fee to our customers.
Meetings were held with representatives of Sircon and Pearson Vue on February 17, 18, and 19. The new database is now online for the C E Providers to post their completion information. The information shows which course was taken and the number of credit hours. Agents may access this information to determine how many hours of credit they have on their record. Remember, this database will take two years of input before it may show the correct information on each agent. All courses completed prior to February 17, 2009 will not show in the database. The TDI will continue to audit in the same manner as they have been for the next two years. Also, please remember that each agent must still receive and keep their completion certificates for 4 years, even though their completion record may also be in the database.
